Expressing Preferences
"prefer": fiilinin kulanın şekilleri
1) subject + prefer + to infinitive [+ any other things like preposition, objects, etc] {+ [rather] than + [to] infinitive [+ any other things like preposition, objects, etc]}.
Özel bir durumdaki tercihler için ; to fiil
Örnek cümle I prefer to eat at home (rather )than go to a restaurant.
Örnek cümle I would prefer to eat at home (rather )thango to a restaurant.
“I would prefer to see him in person.”
2) subject + prefer + gerund [+ any other things like preposition, objects, etc] {+ to + gerund [+ any other things like preposition, objects, etc]}.
Genel olarak sevdiğimiz sevmediğimiz şeylerin tercihinde; fiil-ing
Örnek cümle : I prefer driving.
“He prefers reading books.”
“I prefer living in a city.”
Örnek cümle : I would prefer eating at home .( would prefer ile genelde sadece tercih edilen ifade edilir.)
3) subject + prefer + object {+ to + object}.
isimlerle kullanımı
Örnek cümle : I prefer a car.
Örnek cümle : I prefer cars to a bicycles.

"Would you prefer to see a movie or go to a club?"
"Would you rather go shopping with me?"
“Would you rather stay at a hotel?”
Would rather/would sooner dan sonra mutlaka fiil kullanılır. Fiil yalındır.
“I would rather go home now.”

Başka birinin yapacaklarıyla ilgili tercihlerimizi ifade ederken;
1) subject (özne)+ prefer [+ that] + full clause (tam cümle).
I prefer(that) you travel by train. Trenle seyahat etmeni tercih ederim.
tam cümle -isim cümlesi
2) subject (özne)+ (would)prefer +you/him/her/them + (not) to infinitive.
I'd prefer you to pay cash.(Nakit ödemeni yeğlerim.)
I'd prefer him not to paint the wall. ( Duvarı boyamamasını tercih ederim.)
that he don't paint the wall. -------isim cümlesi 1. kural.
I'd prefer her not to tell Tom. ( Tom a söylememesini yeğlerim.)
